EQS — Equity Systems · Michael J. Lee, CFA

Fewer names.
More scrutiny.

EQS pairs deterministic quantitative screening with an AI-driven CFA Style qualitative review layer, then narrows a broad large-cap universe into a constrained, sector-aware portfolio. This page describes the current process — not a performance record.

The engine

One pipeline, from raw signal to reviewed thesis.

Every cycle runs through the same automated sequence — quantitative scoring, qualitative review, and portfolio construction — as one governed system rather than a stack of disconnected spreadsheets.

01

Quantitative scoring

Factor inputs are winsorized, scaled cross-sectionally, and blended with sector-relative z-scores and risk, liquidity, and turnover penalty terms into a single deterministic score.

02

AI-driven CFA Style review

A qualitative copilot layer evaluates each candidate the way an analyst would — investment thesis, supporting evidence, key risks, valuation context, and portfolio fit — and can exclude a name outright on a Sell call.

03

Market-intelligence ingestion

Sector highlights, overnight summaries, macro reads, and forward estimates are parsed from the desk's daily research flow and fed into the review layer as structured, ticker-level context.

04

Orchestrated workflow

Screening, review, optimization, and reporting run as one sequence, with every run's parameters, data sources, and outputs logged for later reference.

The strategy

EQS Large Cap Growth — from screened universe to constrained portfolio.

EQS Large Cap Growth is a research-driven strategy built on current, not historical, data — a focused book selected through quantitative screening, a qualitative overlay, and constrained optimization.

The approach

Built to be reviewed, not just run.

EQS Large Cap Growth is intended to be actively managed with a disciplined process — not highly tactical, and not turnover-driven. Holdings are generally selected with an intermediate- to long-term horizon in mind, subject to ongoing review of company fundamentals, portfolio fit, liquidity, and risk controls.

The strategy is evaluated on its current methodology, holdings, and constraints — not as a continuation of any prior research framework or backtest.

Disclosures

EQS Large Cap Growth refers to a strategy family. Any reference to historical or backtested results is hypothetical and does not reflect actual client performance. Hypothetical results have inherent limitations: they benefit from hindsight and do not fully reflect the effects of transaction costs, liquidity constraints, market impact, or the exercise of actual investment discretion in real time.

Actual monthly performance shown in the Performance section above is presented gross of advisory fees and any other expenses that would reduce an actual client's returns; net-of-fee results would be lower. Monthly returns, including the current month, are preliminary and unaudited, and are subject to revision. The S&P 500 comparison uses the price-return index (dividends excluded) and is shown for general reference only — it is not a risk-equivalent or strategy-equivalent benchmark.

Past performance, whether actual or hypothetical, is not a guarantee of future results. All investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal. The current EQS Large Cap Growth process should be evaluated on its own methodology, holdings, and constraints, not as a direct continuation of any prior research framework.

Relative valuation is the weighted-average forward 12-month price/earnings ratio of the current EQS Large Cap Growth holdings divided by the S&P 500's forward 12-month P/E ratio as reported by FactSet Earnings Insight. Forward P/E relies on analyst earnings estimates, which are themselves subject to revision and error; a portfolio-level weighted average of individual holdings' P/E ratios is not the same calculation as an index-level aggregate P/E, so this ratio is a reasonable comparison, not a precise equivalence. It is not a forecast of future returns.
